About

These are the musings and occasionally less restrained thoughts of David Powers, for many years a BBC journalist and editor specializing in international affairs - and particularly Japan. Since leaving the BBC in 1999, I have devoted much of my time to writing about PHP and other aspects of web development. In addition to two solo books (Foundation PHP 5 for Flash and Foundation PHP for Dreamweaver 8), I have co-authored four others.

My interest in Japan dates back to 1980, when the BBC first sent me to Tokyo to work as an English-language broadcast adviser to NHK, the Japan Broadcasting Corporation. During four years at NHK, I learned to speak and read Japanese, and have since done professional translations from Japanese of several musical plays, including a wartime trilogy by Keita Asari.
