friends of ED has created what it calls its Summer ’08 Hotlist—seven eBooks that are being offered at 25% off the usual price. One of them is my PHP Solutions: Dynamic Web Design Made Easy, which is currently being offered for $18.37. To benefit from the special price, you need to use the links on the friends of ED summer hotlist page. A similar deal is being offered on 30 Apress eBooks, including Practical Web 2.0 Applications with PHP by Quentin Zervaas. I’m roughly halfway through the book, and it’s really excellent—although you need a solid knowledge of PHP and web design before tackling it. The promotion continues till November. If only summer would last that long!

Hi:
I just ordered 2 of your books (Dreamweaver/PHP.
I am just starting to learn PHP and I decided to add them to my library after seeing the great reviews!
I am getting another computer for my PHP learning ans would like to set up a development system based on Linux.
Does you book covers setting up a Linux Dev System?
Thanks
Raphael
No, sorry, I don’t cover Linux setup. Trying to cover everything in a single book means you end up with rather weak coverage. My books try to concentrate on the main subject – working with PHP and (in the case of the Dreamweaver books) Dreamweaver.
Thanks!
Could you recommend a resource with info on setting up a Linux Dev System?
Thanks,
Raphael
Sorry, Raphael, I’m not a Linux expert.
Can you recommend a tutorial on building a comment page that would fit nicely into your “PHP for Dreamweaver” Blog setup? I found the Blog design Solution hard to follow, also there was no protection against spammers. Any thoughts?
David,
The problem with spammers is a major drawback with trying to set up a comment page. That’s why I use WordPress for this blog. Fingers crossed, it has managed to keep my site spam free.
